This FAQ answers the following questions about guitar and bass instruction with Austin Guitar Lessons: Do I need any musical experience
to take lessons? Do I need any musical experience to take lessons? No. You can greatly benefit from music lessons even if you've never picked up a guitar before. What ages of students do you teach? While we don't have a minimum age requirement, our most successful students have been ten years of age or older. This seems to be due to better coordination and focus, as well as greater physical strength. Students younger than ten often do well with a 30-minute lesson. See our Services page for more information. Can I sit in on my child's lesson? Parents are welcome to sit in on their child's first lesson. At subsequent lessons, we ask that parents wait in our waiting area. The waiting area is very close to the lesson room, so you will be able to follow your child's progress closely while still enabling your child to learn without any distractions. We teach most of our lessons between the hours of 10:00 AM and 8:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Occasionally we will also teach on Saturday and Sunday, by special arrangement. Where do the lessons take place? We generally teach at the Austin Guitar Lessons studio, which is currently being renovated. In the meantime, all lessons are being taught at 913 Wilderness Path in Round Rock. We sometimes also teach in private homes, but there is an additional mileage fee in those instances. What styles of music do you teach? Austin Guitar Studios instructors have experience in a wide variety of musical styles, including rock, metal, pop, blues, jazz, and classical. We customize your lesson plans according to the styles that interest you. See our Services page for more information. Do you offer any special pricing for new students? Absolutely! We offer a one-time 30-minute trial lesson for just $20. Some restrictions apply. Please see our Services page for more information. What is your cancellation policy? You will be given a written copy of the cancellation policy at your first lesson. You (or your parent or guardian, if you're under the age of 18), must read the policy and sign a notice indicating that you understand and agree to the terms it contains. We both must adhere to the policy so that you get the maximum benefit from your studies and so that we can earn our living. Treat your lesson time as seriously as we do, knowing that this time was reserved for you, so that you could become a better musician. If you cannot attend one of your lessons, please contact us as soon as possible. You can cancel a lesson with a minimum of 24 hours' notice. Missed lessons that are not canceled in advance, with the minimum amount of notice, are forfeited. Please limit your cancellations to a maximum of one per month. If you must miss several consecutive lessons, let us know and we will make arrangements around your schedule. Students who cancel a lesson with the required 24-hour notice are eligible for a make-up lesson at a mutually convenient time. Canceled lessons will not be credited against future lessons. However, if an instructor misses a lesson or cancels without 24 hours' notice, Austin Guitar Lessons will give you a free lesson in addition to a make-up lesson for the one that was missed. Your instructor will give you a written copy of the tuition policy at your first lesson, which must be signed by you (or your parent or guardian). The monthly lesson fee is payable in advance at the first lesson of each month. If you forget your payment on the due date, you can bring it by in person later on the same day. No exceptions. While we know that it's easy to forget to bring a payment, it's impossible for us to put off paying our own bills. Want to know more? Give us a call or send us an email. We'd love to talk to you. |
